Sports Medicine Specialist

Gabriella Ode, MD, FAAOS, FAOA is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and advanced shoulder surgery at the HSS Sports Medicine Institute. She is ABOS board certified with additional subspecialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine. Her clinical practice focuses on shoulder, knee and elbow surgery and the care of women athletes of all ages. She has advanced expertise in computer-navigated shoulder arthroplasty, revision shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and arthroscopic and open shoulder stabilization and she annually speaks and educates on national forums about these procedures. Dr. Ode is a team physician for the 2024 WNBA championship winning New York Liberty, and an assistant team physician for the NBA's Brooklyn Nets. She has previously served as a team physician for NCAA Division 1 teams at Iona University and Clemson University.

Dr. Ode earned a Kinesiology degree with a concentration in sports medicine from the University of Virginia, followed by a medical degree from Rush Medical College. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center/OrthoCarolina and a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at HSS. Following her fellowship, she spent additional time in France, working with internationally renowned shoulder surgeons to gain expertise in advanced shoulder reconstruction and arthroplasty techniques.

Dr. Ode is an assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and adjunct faculty with Clemson University Dept of Bioengineering. She has over 100 peer-reviewed presentations and publications and a continued research focus on shoulder arthroplasty, diversity in orthopedics, and optimizing surgical training. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) as well as a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and an associate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). In 2022, she participated in the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) North American Traveling Fellowship, an honor considered to be one of the most prestigious in the field of orthopedic surgery. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, restoring old furniture and spending time with her husband and daughter.
